Curate your own fabrics to personalize your Cookin’ In Color Apron. Students will cut and stabilize their fabric before class. Techniques will include zipper insertion using a piping foot, 4 thread overlock stitch, and rolled hem. Play with different types of serger thread and be inspired to make the most of your machine!
Supplies:
- Serger/Overlock – 4 thread (Option to embellish with chain stitch for those with combination overlock/coverlock machines)
- Fabric:
- ▪ Outer – Main ½ yard, Accent A : ½ yd, Accent B: Fat Quarter ▪ Pellon SF101 – 20” x 1 yd (optional – use to stabilize lightweight Outer fabrics; or use mid-weight fabric without interfacing) ▪ Lining – ½ yard
- ▪ 14-16” 3mm nylon coil zipper
- Thread:
- ▪ 4 x standard serger threads
- ▪ 1 x 12 wt decorative thread eg Wonderfil Spaghetti
- ▪ 1 x wooly polyester eg SoftLoc
- Presser feet:
- ▪ Standard presser foot
- ▪ 5mm piping foot
General Supplies:
- ▪ Fabric shears, painters tape, wonder clips, point turner, thread snips ▪ Optional – mini iron and pressing mat
- Needles: fresh needles to suit your machine, size 80/12 of 90/14 PREPARATION
- ▪ Cut fabric to size per pattern directions. If using lightweight fabric, fuse outer fabric pieces to Pellon SF101 fusible interfacting.
